Police appealed for witnesses today after a man tried to force a 16-year-old girl into his car.

The incident happened when the girl was waiting at a bus stop in Goodens Lane, Wisbech, at around 8am last Wednesday.

A red car stopped alongside her and a man got out of the car and ordered her to get inside.

When she refused, he grabbed her wrists, told her to get in the car and hit her in the face. He let go and drove off after she kicked him.

Det Sgt David Simpson, of Wisbech police, said: "This is being treated as attempted kidnap.

"This ordeal left the young woman involved terrified and I would urge anyone who may have seen what happened, or who has any information they think could help our inquires to get in touch.

"There would have been other road users and pedestrians out and about in Goodens Lane at the that time of the morning so I'm sure someone must have seen something."

The man is described as white, 6ft tall with dark brown spiked hair and a goatee beard.

He was wearing blue jeans, a baggy grey short sleeved t-shirt and a gold necklace and he had three gold rings on his right hand.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 0845 456 4564.
