Action has been demanded to make roads in the Cobholm area of Great Yarmouth safer after a girl was injured in an accident.

Paula Waters-Bunn, borough councillor for Southtown and Cobholm ward, has asked for action after a girl aged eight was injured in a hit and run incident in Empress Road last month.

She raised the issue at Great Yarmouth Borough Council's Yarmouth Area Committee and mentioned another youngster had been involved in an earlier accident on Mill Lane.

The councillor told the committee meeting that 'how many children have to die' before something gets done to tackle this 'dreadful problem'.

She said: 'The roads are not designed for the volume of traffic', and added that the county council needs to do more to solve the problem.

The area committee members agreed to write to roads authority Norfolk County Council's transport committee about the issue.
