A pioneering project giving teenagers the chance to try a range of creative and artistic activities promises to be even bigger and better at Latitude Festival this year.

Eastern Daily Press:

In 2012, around 800 youngsters aged from 12 to 17 took part in workshops, drop-in activities and master classes at the Inbetweeners area of the festival.

And this year the organisers, Norwich-based Culture Works East, are hoping even more youngsters will take part.

Activities being offered from Friday at the festival range from beat boxing, comic book design and stop frame animation, to silk screen printing, music production and digital photography.

Meanwhile, the EDP and Norwich Evening News have teamed up with Culture Works for the youngsters to report from the festival.

As part of the 'Be A Latitude Young Reporter' workshops, development editor Tim Williams and assistant editor David Powles will highlight the many different ways to report from the festival.

The youngsters will then be given the opportunity to have their work used in our Latitude print and online sections.

Elli Chapman, artistic director at Culture Works East, said: 'I am really excited about this year's festival. Young people are being given a chance to work alongside top industry professionals where they can gain real insight into real creative careers and have a go themselves, as well as being able to achieve a qualification by coming and enjoying the festival with their families. I think it is going to be the best one yet!'

In what is believed to be a festival first, the work created as part of the workshops could go towards people's Arts Awards, a scheme aimed at giving young people the chance to get official recognition for any work they do around the arts.

Also taking part are CJ Daugherty, author of international bestselling crime thriller series Night School and horror writer Alexander Gordon Smith, author of the popular Furnace series.
