A SCHOOLBOY had a lucky escape after a wall collapsed over a set of stairs during torrential rain yesterday.
Residents described a sight like a 'river bursting its banks' when mud and bricks cascaded down the Beach Road steps, in Gorleston, at around 5.30pm.
The boy had just got to the top of the steps when a brick wall thudded onto the staircase.
Three fire engines and an ambulance attended, and a gas engineer, the water board and building control were called.
Sections of both Beach Road at the foot of the staircase and Upper Cliff Road at the top of the staircase are closed while repair work is carried out.
The cause of the incident is not yet known.
