Olympic star Sharron Davies was in Norfolk today to open a new 1.1m swimming pool in Caister-on-Sea.
The swimmer and TV personality, who won Olympic and commonwealth medals during her career and has served as a patron of charities for disabled children and fitness, cut the ribbon on the brand new indoor pool at Haven's Caister Holiday Park this afternoon.
She watched a display by Great Yarmouth's Hippodrome synchronised swimmers group and later met with holiday-makers who will be using the private pool.
'Nationally, we are losing swimming pools so I think it's fantastic that here they are investing,' said Ms Davies, 'especially at a time when the Olympics are coming up.
'It's really important that kids can swim for their health, but also their safety. The bigger pool also means it can cater for all aspects. 'I'm a mum of an 18 year-old and a four-year-old and this facility would caters for that age range.'
At 33 metres, the new pool is more than 30pc longer than most. It is part of a major upgrade of facilities at what is the site of Britain's oldest holiday camp going back 105 years.
