Olympic Torch Relay in Norfolk: Road closures

Similarly to the way in which the Norfolk stage of the Tour of Britain operates, the Olympic Torch Relay will operate rolling road closures – with police outriders blocking junctions in order to ensure that the relay can pass along the route, before the junction/road is then reopened when the relay has moved past.

A convoy of the Torch Relay 'presenting partners' travels along the route in advance of the torchbearers.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said: 'Whether a resident, school, community organisation, or business, it is worth familiarising yourself with the route the torch will take through your local area and plan where to view it, or be aware of when to avoid it.'

West Norfolk

In King's Lynn, where the torch is due to arrive at about midday, road closures will be in place all day on the south and east sides of the Tuesday Market Place and parking in this area will also be restricted.

There will be lane restrictions on London Road from early morning until about 2pm.

Parking is prohibited until 2pm today for St Ann's Street, St Nicholas Street, Tuesday Market Place and King Street and there is a suspension of parking spaces and bays until 2pm on London Road.

Parking is also suspended on Blackfriars Street, Tennyson Road, and Beulah Street until 4pm and on the A148 in West Rudham and East Rudham from just after noon until 4pm.

North Norfolk

The torch is due to arrive in Fakenham at 3.13pm, move on to Holt at 3.52pm and then to Cromer at 4.16pm, before travelling on to Aylsham and Norwich later in the day.

Extra car parks have been laid on in Cromer and Holt to cope with demand.

In Cromer, Runton Road car park will operate with its additional field and with normal charges. Additionally the Cromer Carnival car park accessed by the Holt Road layby will also be open at �3 per car. The carnival car park will be a 'park and walk' service, not a 'park and ride' service as it is at carnival time.

In Holt, Gresham's School prep and pre-prep will be used for parking.

There will be road closures from noon in Fakenham on Norwich Street and Market Place.

There will be no on-street parking allowed all day on the torch route and vehicles will be towed away if their owners park them on the route.

Norwich

There will be a rolling road closure from Aylsham Road to Duke Street from 5.40pm to 6.25pm. These roads will be opened as soon as it is safe to do so.

There will be a road closure in place from Duke Street to Exchange Street from 6pm to 7pm.

St Peters Street and Gentleman's Walk will be closed from 4pm until at least 11pm and Theatre Street will be closed from 4pm to 8.30pm.

Meanwhile, Chantry car park will be closed from 4pm to 8.30pm and there will be restricted access to and from the Forum car park between 4pm to 8.30pm. Extra park and ride services will be provided for the event. Thickthorn, Harford, Airport and Sprowston will be open until 8.30pm and extra park and ride services will run until 11pm to Thickthorn.

In Norwich city centre, the following roads will be closed from 4pm to 11pm: Arcade Street, Bedford Street, Brigg Street, Castle Street, Davey Place, Exchange Street, Gaol Hill, Gentleman's Walk, Guildhall Hill, Haymarket, Little London Street, London Street, Opie Street, St Andrews Hill, Swan Lane, White Lion Street, William Booth Street.

4pm to 8.30pm: Chapelfield East, Chapelfield North, Little Bethel Street, Bethel Street from Forum Car Park to Cleveland Road, Chantry Road, Malthouse Road, Rampant Horse Street, Theatre Street.

4pm to midnight: St Peters Street

6pm to 7pm: Bank Plain, Charing Cross, Colegate (from Duke Street to Muspole Street), Duke Street, St Andrews Street.

10pm to midnight: Castle Meadow
