A record number of runners have joined former Olympic distance runner Paul Evans for the first of a series of social running evenings.

Mr Evans, who lives in Norfolk, joined 38 others at the June 11 event, which is part of the build up to Hethersett’s annual Run the Square two-mile fun-run on Sunday, July 16.

There will be six sessions in the lead up to the run, organised jointly by Active Norfolk and Hethersett and the Meltons’ Sports Association.

Peter Steward, association chairman, said: “We have been holding these evenings for the past eight years and they have always proved popular, but 38 is the best attendance we have had on the first evening.”

The sessions will continue on Thursdays from 7pm at the Hethersett Memorial Playing Field.

Entry forms for the fun-run will shortly be available from Hethersett Library and on www.hethersett.org.ukREAD MORE: Cash boost for Hethersett’s Run the Square fun run
