Bradley Waterman, of Silver Road, Norwich, will be judged by celebrities including Boy George and Will.i.am on the popular BBC talent show.

It will be a huge step up for the 19-year-old, who is hoping the experience will help turn his passion for music into a career.

The former Sprowston Community High School student said: 'Ever since I started singing I have wanted to do it on a bigger scale and get out of playing in pubs, even though it is good fun.

'I first applied to The Voice two years ago but didn't get past the first stage. I've got through now because I didn't give up.'

Mr Waterman only learned to play guitar aged 15 and held his first performance a year later at a schoolleaver's event.

After a positive reception he decided to follow his passion and has since been performing at venues across the city.

He added: 'If I had one wish it would have been to start singing earlier, but I didn't want anyone to know.

'My sister would mess around on her keyboard at home and I would just sing to myself so she could not hear me.'

Mr Waterman said he was accepted onto the show after performing at a scouted audition in the city.

He then had to go through three further auditions before getting to the televised stage.

Mum, Paula Hunt, 51, of St Margaret's Drive, Sprowston, said: 'He has never been an easy child to teach as he has always wanted to teach himself.

'He has so much confidence when he stands in front of all these people and I am so proud of him.'

Mr Waterman will be performing on The Voice from 7.15pm on BBC One tomorrow.
