A Norwich City legend helped officially mark the union of two historic schools in Thorpe St Andrew.

Former Canaries goalkeeper Bryan Gunn led a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Thorpe House Langley Preparatory School yesterday.

The school is an amalgamation of the 113-year-old girls' school Thorpe House and the neighbouring co-educational Langley Preparatory School.

The merger saw the children and teachers from the Langley Preparatory move down from Beech Hill House and into the Thorpe House site.

Headmaster Simon Marfleet said: 'Back in September two well-established local independent schools got together to form Thorpe House Langley Preparatory School.

'Thorpe House has been providing education for 113 years and Langley Preparatory has been providing education for 100 years. There must be thousands of pupils who have gone through the two schools over the years and we thought we ought to do something to recognise the merger.' photo: adrian judd
