Police are investigating a row at a Norfolk wedding reception that saw the caterer leave - and left the best man and others to serve a hog roast to 80 guests.
A Norfolk Police spokesman said it had been alleged a man became abusive to members of the wedding party at a property in Hopton on Sunday, August 26.
Bride and groom James and Erin Hacon, from Toddington, Bedfordshire, said they paid £1,200 for a hog roast, bucking bronco and popcorn and candyfloss machines from North Walsham events company L2B Catering Services.
The couple had married in Scotland on Friday, August 24, and hosted the reception in Hopton-on-Sea two days later, on the bride's 30th birthday.
But a dispute with the caterer upon his arrival at the Hall Road venue left the bride in tears, and the groom and his friends dishing up the guests' food themselves.
A representative for the company, based at Fairview Road, who declined to give their name, disagreed with Mr Hacon's version of events and said the dispute arose after the caterer was asked to leave the property by the bride and groom.
Mr Hacon, 31, said: 'About a third of the guests at the wedding were in the hospitality industry so if anything it became a bit of a joke once everybody recovered from the shock.
'My best man and one of my business partners were trying to cook the hog roast on the barbecue.
'If I was anybody else it would have ruined the day completely,' he added.
In an email dated September 24, Mr Hacon informed the company he would pursue a civil claim for a 'full refund and compensation for emotional distress'.
Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
