Shoppers stopped in their tracks as police officers gave chase through Dereham's High Street in a bid to catch a suspected shoplifter.
It is believed the male suspect was seen taking goods from a couple of the shops along Wright's Walk at about 2.25pm today.
Security staff flagged up the incident to police and officers were then seen chasing the man down the main road through the town centre.
A Norfolk police spokesman said they had not yet caught the culprit but there were police officers still in the town and CCTV footage will be looked at.
