A new volunteers programme which is aiming to help vulnerable people achieve health and wellbeing targets.

Health Goals volunteers will work closely with people who frequently attend A&E and whose needs are not just medical.

The aim of the programme is to create a strong and personal support system for vulnerable people, implementing positive plans which improve the health of service users by building on their strengths and connecting them with the community. The approach was pioneered in Blackpool, where they saw an 88pc decrease in A&E attendances among service users.

Volunteers are not expected to provide permanent support, but to help enable the person to support themselves.

The NCHC Volunteer Service will be holding a drop-in session about Health Goals from 11am until 1pm on the January 15 at City Reach Health Services, Westwick Street.
