Sandra Squire, Kate Palmer and Helen Hogan take on the huge waves and tropical storms of the North Atlantic Ocean in the 2019 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

The women, who call themselves the Norfolk Broards, had only joined the King's Lynn Coastal Rowing Club last year. The team said they will endure sleep deprivation, salt sores and blisters in a rowing boat seven metres long and under two metres wide.

For their journey from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean they must carry enough food onboard for 90 days. The current race record for a ladies trio team is 60 days, 18 hours and 34 minutes.

Sandra Squire, West Norfolk councillor for Wimbotsham with Fincham Ward, said: 'We all share the same attitude to life really - that life is short and precious and that we should make the absolute most of every opportunity we're given.

'We want to prove that ordinary people can do amazing, extraordinary things, that anything is possible.'

Chairman of the King's Lynn Coastal Rowing Team Bob Panrucker said the team were an inspiration to others, adding: 'These three rowers make their club proud.'

The trio will also be using this challenge to raise money for charity, which is yet to be revealed. The race is estimated to cost more than £100,000, which the trio are hoping to raise through sponsorship.

They believe they are the first team to enter the race from Norfolk and hope to use the opportunity to promote Norfolk to a global audience of more than 80m people.

Ms Squire, business analyst Helen Hogan and postwoman Kate Palmer will be launching their campaign on March 8 which coincides with International Women's Day.

They will be holding a Facebook live session at 7.30pm on their Facebook page @Norfolkbroards, where they will introduce themselves, talk about the race ahead and their reasons for signing up.

The team are welcoming questions from the public, which can be emailed to info@norfolkbroards.co.uk.
