MPs were handed thousands of pounds by businesses, private donors and trade unions in the run up to the election, the latest official record of MP interests shows.

Great Yarmouth MP Brandon Lewis has declared £83,570.44 from a mixture of private donors and both local and national businesses.

The donors include JCB Research in Staffordshire, Mercer Real Estate Advisors in London, Great Yarmouth Warehousing, Offshore Group Newcastle Ltd and Pasta Foods in Great Yarmouth.

Mr Lewis said he was thankful to all the people who had donated money to his campaign and that it was right that the money was declared so that it was a transparent system.

'It is important. I am proud of the work we do. People want to support us so we have a Conservative government. They want to help us get that literature produced,' he said.

Trade unions including the GMB union and Unite donated more than £28,600 to Norfolk's only Labour MP Clive Lewis, The Norwich South representative said he was 'proud of every single penny' and it was the 'cleanest money in British politics', after the figures were revealed in the new register of members interests.

'They [trade unions] are democratic organisations and it is money made up from the contributions of working people across the constituency and beyond who want a voice in parliament and I hope to bring that voice,' he said. Norwich North MP Chloe Smith received £50,779 in donations, or donations in kind, in 2014 and 2015, including from private donors and the Computer Service Centre in Norwich.
