This Sunday's New York City marathon has been cancelled, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced.

The news comes in the aftermath of the super storm Sandy which killed 96 deaths, 40 of which were in the city of New York.

In a statement, the Mayor said: 'We would not want a cloud to hang over the race or its participants, and so we have decided to cancel it.'

The marathon is the largest in the world, with than 47,000 runners taking part.

It is estimated that 20,000 of those running on Staten Island will be from overseas.

Will you be affected by the cancellation of this year's race? Or do you know somebody who will be?
