A traditional playground game is set to attract numerous contestants and spectators to a new venue today (Saturday).

Now in its 12th year, the pride of the Waveney Valley will be at stake once more as the unofficial biggest conker championships in the world take centre stage.

The annual Waveney Valley conkers tournament will be part of the Maisebrooke Farm food and drink fair on Saturday, October 13.

With the conkers ripe and the strings cut to length, a smashing time is set to be had as the annual contest moves from The Locks Inn at Geldeston across the marsh to the family-friendly Maisebrooke Farm.

Regular hosts and referees Yanny Mac and Paddy Lappin will be in attendance, and Mr Mac said: 'As part of the Autumn Food & Drink Fair, the much-loved conker competition will be part of a whole day's entertainment, commencing mid-afternoon. Expect bad decisions, irreverent behaviour and the odd bit of snagging!'
