Old Buckenham High School has announced its Poet Laureate for 2012 as Georgina Dunkinson.

She is the first girl who has received the title and is also the youngest at just 11 years of age.

Her predecessor, Michael Kelly, will be a difficult act to follow after writing incredibly insightful and poignant poems throughout 2011, said officials at the specialist sports college.

Georgina's winning poem was all about 'achieving your personal best' and was inspired by the Olympic values.

Her winning poem:

I dreamt one night that I, just maybe,

Would be the best at sport in my year.

My thoughts replaced with glory, as I told the story,

I'd be a celebrity within my peer.

I dreamt one night that I, just maybe,

Would reach a regional final in sport.

My game face was on, as I rapidly raced on,

And to my eyes a shimmer was brought.

I dreamt one night that I, just maybe,

Would be the best the nation's ever seen.

A trophy I'd be holding, yet still I was never knowing,

The best of me was still there for all to see.

I dreamt one night that I, just maybe,

Would dazzle the whole continent.

Over years I was budding, and now just becoming,

Healthy, happy and full of confidence.

I dreamt one night that I, just maybe,

Would win an Olympic race.

By now I was beaming, my mother's eyes streaming,

Each time I tried to pick up the pace.

I dreamt one night that I, just maybe,

Had achieved more than ever before.

I had gazed straight ahead, like everyone else,

And found the fun in a little sport.

I knew that night that I, for sure,

Was a winner just for me.

Not through figures and facts and winners,

But by being the best I could possibly be.

I saw the strength in a loss,

And the luck in a toss,

And realised that I was only here to beat me.
