A new support group has been formed to help young carers in the Harleston area.

Harleston Information Plus is working with the Crossroads Care Young Carers Project to hold meetings at the information centre in the town. The sessions have been set up following a request from a number of young carers who attended an information afternoon.

Julie Helsby, community support worker for Harleston Information Plus, said: 'We were surprised to have five young carers come to us asking for a support group. They want an opportunity to talk in confidence about their experiences, get information and support to help them with their caring and have a chance to talk to other young carers.'

Officials from Harleston Information Plus and the Crossroads Care Young Carers Project hope that the new group will help young people with their caring responsibilities, but also assist them to have the social and educational opportunities usually available to young people.

The next meeting is on Thursday, February 17 between 3.40pm and 5.00pm and on Thursday March, 10 there will be a further meeting where young people can quiz a medical professional.
