Francis Bone, owner of King's Lynn's Gravy Boat in Loke Road, has taken on a new role with homeless charity the Purfleet Trust.

Mr Bone will be working part-time with the kitchen team, with an aim to reduce food waste and help produce a variety of dishes for the clients.

Mr Bone said financial struggles at his business meant he had to find a second job to make ends meet.

He added: 'It has been a very trying times for the Gravy Boat as it has been for all businesses, due to the current economic climate and the uncertainty of the outcome of Brexit.

'I was faced with a choice of making my only employee redundant or get myself a job whilst we ride out the financial storm.

'I look forward to be able to share my knowledge whilst guiding clients to get involved and learn basic cooking, not only that with a little training these people have a huge potential that with a little positive encouragement can realise all the possibilities available to them.'

'I am really looking forward to being able to empower people and I feel I have just as much to learn from these guys as I have to teach so this is very much going to be mutually beneficial for everyone involved.'

The kitchen is currently being managed by a team of volunteer chefs who have all been or are clients of the charity.

Paula Hall, chief executive of the Purfleet Trust, said: 'We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to Francis who has the skills, knowledge and experience to bring a new dimension to our service.

'Francis is passionate about reducing food waste and as we are committed to this issue I believe Francis could make a real difference to how we work with our wonderful, generous food partners and ensure food is distributed to those in need who with Francis guiding them will learn how to cook nutritious meals while living on a restricted budget.'
