Talented brass and percussion players are invited to join the 80-strong National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain for a day.

The free open day is on Tuesday, August 7, during the band's summer residential course at Wymondham College, and runs from 10am to 4pm.

The band, which is open by audition to brass and percussion players aged 12 to 18, will be performing at the BBC Proms in London at the Royal Albert Hall and in Beccles and the Snape Proms in Suffolk in August.

The open day will include a masterclass by a leading musician, opportunities to listen to the band rehearse, listen to the band's solo competition and take part in a question and answer session with the band's conductor, Bramwell Tovey.

Philip Biggs, administrator of the band, said: 'We are looking for talented youngsters from across the region and beyond to attend the band's open day. Previous open days have been extremely successful, and we expect this one to be no different.'

The tutors for the day will be drawn from some of the world's leading brass and percussion players. These include Mark Wilkinson (cornet, Fodens), Helen Williams (flugel, Fodens), Martin Armstrong (horn, Brass Band of Battle Creek, USA), Glyn Williams (euphonium, Fodens), Chris Stearn (bass trombone, Scottish Opera) and Phil Goodwin (tuba, Black Dyke).

The band will perform at St Michael's Church, New Market, Beccles, on Thursday, August 9, and Snape Maltings, Suffolk, on Friday, August 10, then at the BBC Proms on August 12. Cornet soloist for the concerts in Suffolk will be James Fountain, the band's long-standing principal cornet player, who until recently was principal cornet of Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
