Mystery surrounds why a police tent was set up a stone's throw away from Great Yarmouth bus station for the best part of Sunday.

Norfolk Police have confirmed that there was a confrontation between a man and a woman on North Market Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

However they said they could not release any more detail for data protection reasons.

Local residents said they heard shouting a man and woman in the early hours of the morning, and woke up to see a police tent set up, and a cordon blocking the road at the bus station side.

Into the evening the tent was still set up, with a police car next to it, and a policeman circling the tent.

Mark Thompson, 32, who lives nearby, said: 'I heard a row outside between a man and a woman really early in the morning, I think it must have been after 3am.

'I didn't think too much of it at the time really it didn't sound like anything out of the ordinary.

'But when I woke up there was a police tent out there and they cordoned the road off at the bus station side, and it sounds like the two people I heard shouting might have been the ones involved.

'By the fact they have been out there all day makes it look like whatever happened was pretty serious.'
