A motorist who was stopped travelling at 105mph on the A47 has been arrested for allegedly driving at just under twice the drink-drive limit.

Sergeant Chris Harris from Norfolk's roads policing and firearms operations unit (RPFOU) tweeted about the arrest at Acle made earlier this afternoon (Saturday, May 20).

He tweeted: 'Within 10 minutes on patrol I stopped a driver travelling at 105mph #A47 Acle'

Sgt Harris said the motorist had been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

He later tweeted that the motorist had provided two evidential samples which showed the driver was just under twice the limit.

Drink-driving is one of the fatal four dangers among motorists that police actively look to crackdown on in a bid to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on the county's roads.

More than 2,600 people were breathalysed in Norfolk and Suffolk during the Christmas drink drive campaign with 224 drivers failing.

The month-long campaign, launched on December 1 2016, targeted drivers getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

In Norfolk 1,320 tests were carried out (424 following collisions) with 82 drivers providing positive readings (61 male and 21 female). Thirty-five drivers failed drug tests (32 male and 3 female).

In Suffolk 1,329 tests were carried out (450 following collisions) with 142 drivers providing positive readings (122 male and 20 female). Forty-three drivers failed drug tests (37 male and 6 female).
