It's time to dust off your best mug and teapot in readiness for the annual World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

Last year the event – in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support – raised a record £15m across the UK, and organisers are hoping to beat that total this time around.

So far, more than 3,000 people in Norfolk and Suffolk have signed up to take part in the fundraiser, which officially takes place tomorrow (Friday), and will see events continuing throughout the week.

Nathalie Marshall, fundraising manager for Norwich and central Norfolk, said: 'We are really grateful to everyone who has signed up to hold a coffee morning.

'Their support is very much appreciated and we hope they have a fantastic time at their event.'

In north Norfolk, The Butchers Arms in East Ruston is hosting a coffee morning from 9am to 11am. There will be a selection of teas, coffee, cakes and even bacon rolls.

The Beeston Farm Shop, on North Walsham Road, will host a Great Beeston Bake Off cake competition in aid of the charity and everyone is invited to enter their creations.

Mary Kemp, a local chef and food writer, will be there to judge and give cookery tips.

Further along the coast there will be a coffee morning from 10am to 1pm at the Yard Project, off Ashby Road, in Lowestoft, where coffee, cakes and other items have been supplied by a local knitting group.

In Gorleston, there will be a raffle and a bouncy castle for visitors with children at Top Body Gym, from 9am to 1pm, and Gorleston FC will be hosting a coffee morning in the clubhouse at Emerald Park on Woodfarm Lane from 10am to noon.

In Mattishall, there will be an event in memory of Rosie Van Raalte, who lost her battle with leukaemia earlier this year, aged just 19.

At 14 years old, Rosie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer.

Hosting the event is Lynn Reeson, who has held coffee mornings in memory of her mother, who died in 1997, for the past 12 years.

She said: 'This year, while still remembering mum, the morning is for Rosie too.'

The event will be held at South Green Park café from 9.30am to 11.30am.

In the west of the county, at King's Lynn Academy, cakes have been baked and donated by pupils and staff, and a cake decorating competition will be judged while the coffee morning is taking place, with the best decorated cake being donated to the raffle.

Students will also be selling hand-made, colourful jewellery to add to the total they raise from selling coffee and cakes.

And in the south of the region, Bressingham Primary School is hosting an event from 2pm and will have a fabulous display of home made cakes.
