Damage has been done to a river cruiser which crashed on the Norfolk Broads, causing injury to one of the crew.

The vessel, which is thought to be owned by Faircraft-Loynes Broads Tours, was travelling down the stretch of the River Bure which runs alongside the Acle Straight at around 12pm when the accident happened.

A man in his 70s sustained a head injury. The damage to the vessel is thought to have occurred when the rest of the crew left the wheel to attend to their injured crew mate.

Teams from HM Coastguard Gorleston and the Gorleston Inshore Lifeboat left the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival on Saturday, at which they were both demonstrating, to attend the scene. The ambulance service was also called.

Because of the location, it was decided that the safest method was to transfer the man to the lifeboat and then to take him to the old Stracy Arms pub to be met by the ambulance for transport to hospital.

The East of England Ambulance service confirmed they had taken a man in his 70s to James Paget University Hospital to be treated for head injuries.
