A man had to be restrained by police after allegedly shouting abuse at people near to Norwich Market.

Concerns had been raised about a deterioration in the mental health of a man who was found by police on Gentleman's Walk where he was shouting abuse at people in the area.

Sergeant Mark Shepherd said the man had to be restrained during the incident which happened at about 11.45am on Monday, May 8.

The man, in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and was taken into police custody.

He was released without charge and detained under the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital for treatment.
