A recycling event is set to be held in a Norfolk town at the end of the month, providing people with the opportunity to donate unwanted items.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) give-and-take event will be at Ketts Park Community and Recreation Centre in Harts Farm Road, starting at 9am on August 30.

The WEEE event will welcome donations of computers, TVs, music systems, vacuum cleaners, small kitchen appliances such as kettles and toasters, hairdryers, games consoles and phones.

From 9am until 2.30pm people can bring items for re-use and recycling and from 11am to 2.30pm, the re-use area will open to those who want to take away items –free or for a donation to charity.

However, organisers South Norfolk Council cannot accept fridges and freezers, fluorescent tubes, commercial or industrial items, large items that cannot easily be lifted and placed on a vehicle, or anything non-electrical.

The council's priority to improve the environment has resulted in garden waste collections up 1,000 tonnes on last year with one in four households having a brown bin.

Rubbish being sent to landfill is down by 2,600 tonnes over the last three years.

The council has so far organised four WEEE events - two in Costessey, one in Diss and another in Loddon.
