A £300,000 refurbishment of Yarmouth's oldest shopping centre has been announced for the start of the year.

Existing tenants in Victoria Arcade hope it will turn around an alarming decline that has seen a large exodus of traders and many empty shop units.

Arcade owner Miller Developments said work will begin in early January and continue until May. Where possible, any disruptive works will be undertaken outside trading hours.

The improvements, which are aimed at enhancing the overall shopping environment, include the creation of striking new entrances in King Street and Regent Street, better signage throughout the arcade and car park and major repairs and decoration to the roof.

Neil Finnie, of Miller Developments, said: "These improvements will create a much more enjoyable shopping experience and underline the commitment of Miller Develop-ments to Victoria Arcade."
