More than 90 schools remain closed across Norfolk today as the impact of freezing weather continues despite minimal new snow.

The icy weather is continuing to take its toll of events in the region with further cancellations announced.

Norwich International Airport has decided to postpone this weekend's travel show exhibition due to the weather conditions that are forecast over the next 48 hours. Many of the exhibitors were due to travel long distances to be at the event and their attendance would be in doubt.

Despite the postponement, the 5pc discount off any package holiday bookings departing from Norwich Airport made this weekend, along with free holiday car parking at Norwich Airport, will still be available through the Travel Norwich Airport agencies located within the airport terminal building and the Castle Mall, Norwich.

Meanwhile, this weekend's British Carp and Angling Show at the Norfolk showground has also been cancelled.

A spokesman said: 'Due to the extreme weather conditions and the forecast for heavy snow all day Friday and Saturday, the show has now been rescheduled for a later date. Advanced tickets will be permitted at the new show date to be announced soon.

'Because of the severe weather situation health and safety regulations have made it impossible to run this event safely.'

Motorists are warned to continue to be vigilant as temperatures remain at freezing point or below.

A Norfolk police spokesman said at 12.30pm: 'Since 8am there have been eight accidents across the county with a couple of injuries, but none believed to be serious.'

They include a single vehicle crash on the A47 near Trowse and a collision involving a car and bike in Unthank Road, Norwich.

More than 90 schools remained closed across Norfolk today.

Staff are blaming ice and poor travel conditions among the reasons to close but some are staying open for student exams.

Meanwhile, police reported at 8am that all A roads in Norfolk are clear and moving well, although drivers are urged to be vigilant about possible ice.

Insp Stuart Bailey, in the Norfolk police control room, said: 'Drivers seem to be getting used to the conditions but they have still got to be very careful, especially on the back roads.

'I think the main thing today will be the state of the pavements so pedestrians will have to take great care.'

Greater Anglia is reporting rail delays between Norwich and London and Norwich and Great Yarmouth due to broken down trains.

Due to the continuing road conditions First Buses says it will only be operating along main roads until further notice.

Steve Weston, forecaster at the UEA-based Weatherquest service, said that after a bitter night - temperatures plunging to -10C at Marham and -11C at Eye - it would remain very cold today, barely reaching freezing point.

He said: 'There should not be any snow today but there is a risk of a fall of a couple of inches tonight in Suffolk.'

While there could be snow showers over the weekend the next point of concern was Sunday night/ Monday morning when another weather system would move in bringing the possibility of significant snow.

He said it looked likely that the present weather pattern, caused by high pressure over Scandinavia, would carry on for a number of days.
