A witness described hearing very loud bangs 'almost like bombs going off' from inside the vehicle which was ablaze in Lound on Saturday afternoon.

Liam Harper, 21, from Lowestoft, spotted the smoke as he was driving along the A47 near Hopton and pulled over in Dorking Road to see what was happening.

He said: 'We thought something's got to be up, so went to investigate and saw the van on fire in the middle of the road, but it only looked minor when I first got there.

'Then all of a sudden everything on board the van caught alight and started exploding, it was crackling then when the things on the van went up it was making loud bangs almost like bombs going off.'

The emergency services received a call just after 3pm to reports of a van on fire. Crews from Great Yarmouth and Gorleston used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.
