A new monthly support group has been launched to help people coping with bereavement.

The East of England Co-op Long Stratton funeral branch has launched the group to offer people the time and space to talk with others in the community who are coping with the loss of a loved one.

The new 'Friendship Circle' gathers at Long Stratton village hall on the last Tuesday of every month at 9.30am and is free of charge.

Charity shops have kindly donated board games for use at the informal meeting and attendees can enjoy a hot drink with cake and biscuits.

Funeral arranger, Kelly Harvey, said: 'Bereavement affects people differently and for some, the death of a loved one can of course be devastating.

'We are proud to have set up the Friendship Circle because it gives residents the chance to meet and talk to people who are going through similar experiences.

'Our ambition for the group is that friendships can form through these meetings. Rather than walking the dog alone, people can go on walks together or simply meet up for a coffee during the week. It is small things like this which can make a big difference.'

The East of England Co-op Long Stratton Funeral branch is open from 9am to 4.30pm, with a free care line available every hour of every day on 0800 0744362.
