Motorists face a 20-mile diversion for 10 weeks during daytime hours while a section of the road between Dereham and Mattishall is shut for a new footway to be installed.
The £65,000 project is due to start on Wednesday January 3 to build a new footway linking Station Road and the Garden Centre in Yaxham.
The work will affect traffic on the B1135 Dereham Road at Yaxham, as a road closure is needed between 7.30am to 5pm for vehicles (except school buses) while the work takes place.
Outside these hours there will be two-way traffic lights for the duration of the work.
Norfolk County Council said the road closure was needed so that the work can be carried out safely.

The daytime diversion route has to follow category B roads or above, so will go from the B1135 at Dereham to the B1108 Watton Road and along the A47 Southern bypass to Dereham, which is about 20 miles.
County Hall officials stressed that roadworks on the Mattishall Road between Norwich Road in Dereham and Mattishall, would be finished before the Yaxham work starts.
