New homes, cafes, restaurants and a multi-storey car park are included in a vision for how new life could be breathed into part of Norwich.

A draft plan is being drawn up for the area around King Street and the views of public and businesses used to put it together.

The Norwich Evening News already revealed part of the draft plan - an artists' impression for how St Anne's Wharf could be turned into housing.

But, at the launch of a public exhibition yesterday, people got the chance to see some of the other ideas for the area.

The plan has identified four key area for development. As well as St Anne's Wharf, other key areas highlighted are Mountergate West, Garden Street and Normandie Tower/Argyle Street.

In Mountergate West, the suggestion is for a mix of homes and businesses, along with a multi-storey car park, while Garden Street could see homes and possibly a primary school.

Homes in Argyle Street, which have long been empty, could be demolished and replaced and Normandie Tower could be refurbished.

Other ideas include an interpretation zone around the City Walls, cafes and restaurants at a newly created Lady Julian Square and turning Rouen Road into a 'tree-lined street'.

Norwich City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency had tasked David Lock Associates to come up with a vision for the future of the area, following workshops with the public and businesses earlier this year.

With the partnership potentially able to put in some money for development, the council hopes the draft plan will also help attract private investment to the area.

Of the exhibition, Julia Foster, from David Lock Associates, said: 'We have had a really good turnout and the vast majority of people have been really positive. They just want to see something done in the area,

'We've seen some familiar faces in that some of the people who came to the workshops have come along and we're pleased that they say we've taken what they told us on board.'

The display will remain on show at the King's Centre in King Street and at the Castle Mall from 10am until 4pm today.
