A Spixworth father has said it will break his son's heart that they will not be able to go on a long-planned holiday to Spain next year.

Stephen Robinson, 52, said they had not been able to go away since he had a bad accident four years ago and while his son Cameron had been having operations for a cleft lip and palate.

The family, who live on Cedar Ave, had been saving up to go to Spain next year during term time, but would not be able to afford to take their son during the school holidays.

He said it could be their last chance for a family holiday before their son reaches the age where he does not want to go on holiday with his parents.

Mr Robinson said his son was getting over 95pc in his exam results.

'If he missed a French lesson and a couple of RE classes, I personally believe the experience would have far out-weighted the loss of lessons.'

'We have lost the holiday I have promised him. It is a promise I can't keep through no fault of my own. There is no way I can keep that promise because we don't have the money and we would be breaking the law.'
