People across Norfolk are today urged to leave the government in no doubt of how desperately the a fully dualled A47 is needed, by sending thousands of postcards demanding action.

Some 40,000 Freepost 'Wish we were dualled' postcards are included in copies of today's Eastern Daily Press.

We are asking people to write on the back why they want the government to commit to completely dualling the A47 and to send off the postcard.

At the moment, less than half the road is dualled and this week saw the launch of the 'Just Dual It!' campaign, spearheaded by the Eastern Daily Press, Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

The aim of the campaign is to put pressure on the government to commit to further improvements to a key road for Norfolk, which stretches from Peterborough to Lowestoft, on top of the £300m which has been earmarked.

And the postcards will play a vital part in demonstrating the strength of public opinion, as the government ponders which road projects should get funding beyond 2020.

Martin Wilby, chairman of the A47 Alliance and chairman of Norfolk County Council's environment, transport and development committee, said: 'The campaign has got off to a fantastic start but vital to its success is being able to show the government there is overwhelming support for getting the A47 dualled.

'If we can take crates crammed full of completed postcards down to Westminster in the summer it will send such a powerful message that people are demanding something is done about this.'

David Powles, editor of the Eastern Daily Press, said: 'We've had a brilliant response to the campaign so far and it seems to have struck a chord with people from one end of the road to the other.

'However, we really want something physical that we can take down to the government to highlight the strength of feeling.

'That is why it's vital people just take a minute or two to fill in their postcards and pop them in the post.'

The postcards were produced with the help of designers Nu Image and printers Expert Print Management, both based in Norwich.
