Town councillors from Holt are keen to go ahead with plans to organise another car parking project for the town next year, despite it making only a small profit this summer.

Temporary parking at Gresham's Pre-prep School had been put in place to help raise money for community schemes at Holt but had not been as successful as hoped due to a lack of support from residents and traders, town councillors were told.

After expenses the total amount of profit made was 60, which will be split equally between Gresham's School and Holt Town Council.

It was hoped that the project would have raised about 5,000 for the town, which would have been used to implement the Holt Vision blueprint to boost its vitality.

But councillors said this would not put them off doing a similar project in the future.

Maggie Prior believed it was 'a very good project'.

She said: 'We should do it again if given the chance. I think we could make more next year.'

Duncan Baker also agreed and added that although financially the project had not been a success, it had offered a good service for the town.

'Without the offer from Gresham's we would not have done it and I hope we would work with them again,' he said.

'We are very grateful to Gresham's and we will learn from it this year. Most people who used the car park were very appreciative.'

A total of 937 visitors used the temporary car park, off Church Street, with Tuesday consistently the busiest day, town councillors heard at last night's town council meeting.

? The next town council meeting is on October 8 at 7pm at the Community Centre.
