The starting gun has been fired in a move to help sports stars of the future get their careers off to a flier.
Funding for a new Sporting Centre of Excellence has been approved by North Norfolk District Council leaders. A budget of £20,000 has been pledged by Cabinet members for the partnership project with Gresham's School in Holt. It will bring together the best young athletes in the district with top coaches, with the focus in the first year on hockey, cricket, netball and running.
The council's deputy leader Judy Oliver said: 'This is an excellent idea which I thoroughly endorse. Schools across the district have expressed an interest in the programme and I think Gresham's have been exceptionally generous in hosting it.'
Coaching sessions will be run from October. To take part in selection trials call 01263 516035.
