East Anglian MPs reacted with fury to suggestions that terror suspects should be relocated to Norwich or Ipswich under proposed new powers to break up suspected terror networks.
Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, said the city should not be used as some kind of 'dumping ground' for the rest of the country after former Labour cabinet minister Hazel Blears called for a return of powers which had seen suspects sent to Ipswich or Norwich.
The prime minister announced yesterday that he could bring back the powers to move suspects away from friends and families, which had been place under control orders, which were brought in by the last Labour government in 2005, but abolished in 2012 and replaced with less stringent TPims.
Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey said she was shocked by Ms Blears' comments that terror suspects should be sent to Ipswich or Norwich.
'We live in a peaceful county, crime is falling and we don't need the aggravation of hosting potential terrorism suspects. Frankly there are higher police budgets elsewhere and they shouldn't be dumped on Suffolk.'
