Jeremy Punchard has become mayor of Fakenham for the second time in three years.

Mr Punchard, 30, was one of the youngest mayors in the country when he first took the role at the age of 27.

The new deputy mayor of Fakenham is David Cubitt.

Mr Punchard, pictured above, who also represents the Fakenham South parish on North Norfolk District Council, said: 'I'm really looking forward to the year when there will be lots of exciting opportunities.

'I'm particularly looking forward to working to develop many of Fakenham's green spaces.'

Mr Punchard, who has been a town councillor for five years, replaced Adrian Vertigan as mayor at Tuesday night's town council meeting.

Mr Punchard said: 'We currently have a vacancy on the town council and I would recommend it to anyone.

'It would be great to see more young people getting involved in local politics where you really can make a difference.'

Mr Vertigan said: 'I've had an amazing year and met some really nice people.

'The highlight for me was working with the Royal British Legion to add new names to the Fakenham war memorial and on the Armistice parade.

'Also taking on the district council over CCTV and winning to keep that service for the town was a really great achievement for the town council.

'I'm really pleased that Jeremy is stepping up to the mark and I'm sure he and David will do a great job, taking the council forward.

'I'm going to continue as a town councillor and with my work on Kick Start Fakenham, so Fakenham is still very much in my heart.'

Anyone interested in applying to become a Fakenham town councillor should write to the town clerk Linda Jennings at Fakenham Town Council, Fakenham Connect, Oak Street, Fakenham, NR21 9DY.
