Tweaks have been made after queues built up on the first day of work on new cycle lane on the edge of Norwich.

Nine weeks of work to add a shared cycle path along Eaton Street, between Eaton and Cringleford, got under way on Monday.

The slip road into Eaton from Newmarket Road will be closed for five weeks and today saw jams build up.

But Transport for Norwich, which is behind the scheme, hopes changes will ease those issues.

A spokeswoman for Transport for Norwich said: 'As with the start of all schemes, we've been monitoring traffic flow through Eaton in response to traffic management put in place for construction work.

'As a result, we've made some minor changes on the ground, which should minimise congestion as much as possible.

'We'd like to thank everyone in the area for their patience, particularly during this early phase.'

Changes include:

• Banned left hand turn into Barclays bank and banned right hand turn coming out of Barclays so this traffic has to re-join the vehicles waiting at the lights.

• Traffic lights running past the Waitrose entrance have now been moved up to the existing crossing point.

• Two lane closures to separate the traffic and maintain two-way flow.

Four-way traffic management in the village centre is still in place.
