Norwich South MP Clive Lewis has returned to the Labour Party's shadow ministerial team.

Party leader Jeremy Corbyn made 13 new appointments to his party's junior ranks in a reshuffle that included appointing Mr Lewis as the party's shadow minister for Treasury.

The Labour MP resigned as shadow business secretary last year over his party's stance towards the Brexit vote.

At the time Mr Lewis said he could not 'in all conscience' support triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

Following his resignation he said he was planning to get back into a backbench routine and work hard for his constituents.

Mr Lewis said he had thought 'long and hard' before accepting the new role as shadow minister for Treasury.

'Being on the backbenches has allowed me to spend ever more time speaking up for Norwich at what is currently a very difficult time with manufacturing and police job losses,' he said.

'Being on the frontbench will never stop me speaking up for the city but it will mean I have to devote a bit more time to national treasury issues.

'But ultimately I understand so many of the problems facing our city will only be resolved with the election of a Labour government.'

'If by playing my part in convincing the electorate that a future Labour government will ensure we have an economy that works for the many and not just the few, then I know Norwich will benefit.

'To that end it's a great privilege to serve again on the front-bench.'

Speaking about the recent changes, Mr Corbyn said: 'I am pleased to make these appointments to strengthen Labour's frontbench team, which is now a government in waiting.

'I look forward to working with them in their new roles holding the government to account, developing policy to transform our country and, with their Shadow Secretary of States, preparing to form a government that will deliver for the many not the few.'

Mr Lewis was last month cleared of groping a woman after the party's sexual harassment panel found insufficient evidence to proceed with a case against him.
