A by-election is being called to find a replacement.
North Norfolk District Council ward councillor Steven Ward, who represented the Astley Ward, has resigned from the authority.
Mr Ward, who was elected in May 2011 and 2015, has stepped down from the district councillor post with effect from today (Wednesday).
The ward covers the parishes of Briningham, Fulmodeston, Hindolveston, Melton Constable, Thurning, Swanton Novers and Wood Norton.
Mr Ward said: 'I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Councillor, but with the increased pressure of looking after my young family and family business, I no longer have enough time to commit to the role.
'I would like to thank everyone for their support and wish all staff and members the best for the future.'
A by-election will be held to elect a new councillor for the Astley Ward, although a date has yet to be announced.
