Elizabeth Truss has urged her constituents to vote in favour of continued EU membership at the launch of a Conservative campaign for Britain to remain in.
The South West Norfolk MP led the East Anglian launch of the Conservatives In campaign today in Thetford, where a recent poll by the EDP showed most people to be in favour of coming out of the 28-nation block.
She was joined at the event at the Keystone Innovation Centre by Jo Churchill, MP for Bury St Edmunds, Vicky Ford, MEP for the East of England, and John Shropshire, CEO of Cambridgeshire vegetable producer G's Fresh.
Ms Truss said the referendum on June 23 would be 'incredibly important' for Norfolk residents, adding that it was 'vital for the future of East Anglia' for Britain to stay in.
She focused on industry and the economy, saying businesses would be hit with a 'double whammy of British and European red tape' if the UK were to vote to leave.
'Our industries benefits from us being an outward-facing economy working closely with the EU and working within a single market of 500 million people. If we were to leave we have an incredible amount to lose,' she said.
'We're talking about our future prosperity and the kind of country we want to be.'
Ms Truss said the Conservatives In campaign was important to help undecided voters to make up their minds. 'For a lot of voters Europe can see quite remote, they don't understand how it will relate to them.'
