A group of Travellers have arrived at a park and ride site in Norwich.

A number of caravans and motorhomes have arrived at the Thickthorn Park and Ride site just off the Thickthorn roundabout.

The group, which includes women, children and dogs, have moved onto an area at the far end of the park and ride site.

Make-shift washing lines have been tied to caravans as well as black runbbish bags and children were seen playing on scooters near to the caravans.

A spokesman for the group was approached but declined to comment.

It is not clear when the group arrived but Norfolk police said they were aware of the encampment.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council, which leases the land, said they will be meeting with the group soon to find out what their intentions are in terms of staying at the site.

'The Thickthorn Park & Ride site remains open for business as usual as do the other five sites around the city.

'There are a number of caravans currently on part of the Thickthorn Park & Ride site, it's still early days but we will be following the usual protocol for managing unauthorised encampments. One of the first things we will be doing is meeting with the people there to see if they are planning to move from the site soon as we would wish to avoid unnecessary legal action.'

It is the latest Traveller encampment to arrive in the city.

Last month an encampment arrived on the former football fields, opposite Open Academy.

Their arrival was met with varied reactions from people living in nearby homes - some reacting with apprehension, while others are more relaxed.

It was not clear if they were part of the same group which had left a site at Barnard Bridge playing field in Great Yarmouth.
