A man has been rescued 50m off Lowestoft's coast by the town's lifeboat crew.
The rescue took place last night after police saw a man in difficulty in the sea off Links Road in north Lowestoft at about 11pm.
The RNLI Spirit of Lowestoft lifeboat was then called out along with the Gorleston and Great Yarmouth inshore lifeboat, Lowestoft and Southwold coastguard rescue teams and a RAF search and rescue helicopter from Wattisham airfield.
John Fox, coxswain of Lowestoft lifeboat, said: 'It took us just a few minutes to reach the incident and as soon as we arrived second coxswain Karl Jackson jumped into the sea to support the man.
'He was beyond the end of the groynes, roughly 50 metres from the shore and was very cold and in an exhausted state.
'The crew threw a rope to the pair and then pulled them alongside before lifting the casualty on to the deck of the lifeboat where they administered first aid as the lifeboat sped back to port.'
An ambulance and paramedic were waiting for the lifeboat when it returned to Lowestoft harbour and the man was then taken to the James Paget University Hospital, in Gorleston, for further treatment.
The man was said to have been in a depressed state.
