A lifeboat was called into action after a member of the public mistook a partially-deflated balloon for a swimmer in difficulty.
Gorleston Coastguard team was notified about the incident at 10.23am today, with reports of an object in the water between Caister and North Denes.
Caister inshore lifeboat was launched and the crew found the object was a ballon that had partially deflated.
A spokesman described the incident as a 'false alarm with good intent'.
