Last weekend to discover artists’ magnificent obsessions in Norwich

From cookie jars to model elephants - the intriguing collections of major artists such as Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol have fascinated thousands of visitors to the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich.

Magnificent Obsessions: The Artist As Collector has been running since September, but art fans who have yet to see the show need to hurry as this weekend is its last weekend in the city.
Richard Smith, from the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, said the quirky show which juxtaposes the personal collections of artists with their own art work had proven very popular with people of all ages.
'We are really happy with how the exhibition has gone. We have had thousands of visitors who have really enjoyed it. It has been very popular,' he said.
'I think the secret to its success is its sheer variety - you have everything from Andy Warhol's cookie jars which are really kitsch to Hiroshi Sugimoto's collection of prosthetic eyes to taxidermy from Damien Hirst's private collection.'

As well as Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and Hiroshi Sugimoto, other contemporary artists featured include Arman, Peter Blake, Edmund de Waal, Howard Hodgkin, Sol LeWitt, Martin Parr and Pae White.
And Mr Smith said lots of visitors had also been sharing their own collections too.

'We have had a lot of people getting involved with Your Magnificent Collections,' Mr Smith said.
'We have had all sorts of weird and wonderful collections that people have submitted to us, everything ranging from miniature televisions to toy sharks to round stones from the beach.
'This week's highlighted collection on our website is a collection of all sorts of Wombles-related items.'
Magnificent Obsessions: The Artist as Collector is curated and organised by Barbican Centre, London. The exhibition runs until Sunday. Opening hours, Thursday 10am to 6pm, Friday 10am to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Tickets £12/£10.50. For more information, visit www.scva.ac.uk
