A reverend will embark on a 1,000 mile journey to raise money for a new community centre in memory of her son.

St Faith's Church in Gaywood, King's Lynn, is creating a new community support centre and meeting place in Gayton Road for those who need support in times of need.

In just under one months' time, Rev Julie Boyd, her husband Matthew and their daughter Hattie will start their journey from King's Lynn to Inverness on their motorbikes in memory of Andrew, Julie and Matthew's son who died last year having taken his own life.

Rev Boyd said: 'My daughter and I have never ridden a motorbike before, but Andrew was a keen motorcyclist and often suggested that his sister and I should both learn to ride and join him and his dad on the road.

'At his funeral last year we made a promise that we would do exactly that and now the time has come to fulfil that promise.

'Andrew left behind three motorbikes and so his sister and I have been getting ready for the big day by having motorcycle lessons and are now on the road with L plates.'

Rev Boyd said the mental health charity West Norfolk Mind will have free use of the new cafe for the first three years to help them develop their services to young people in the area.

She added: 'People have been sponsoring us and we have raised in the region of £3,000 already which is very encouraging. Local schools, care homes, the local GP surgery and individuals are planning their own fundraising events to do their part.'

Eddie West-Burnham, chief executive of West Norfolk Mind, said: 'We are absolutely delighted to be included in this fabulous community project.

'We have enjoyed getting to know Julie and all those involved in setting it up and share their vision to expand our vital services.

The big journey begins on Monday, August 13 at 11am and everyone is welcome to St Faith's Church to see the Boyd family off.
