Jeremy Corbyn paid west Norfolk a visit last night where took an evening off to enjoy a Christmas dinner held by the GMB union.

Jo Rust, secretary of the North West Norfolk constituency Labour party, said Mr Corbyn was invited by the trade union to their meal at Middleton Hall Golf Club - near King's Lynn - and was having a 'night off'.

According to Ms Rust, who was also a guest, he gave a 'rousing speech in support of ordinary people and the benefit that comes from trade unions'.

She added: 'Jeremy is a man of his word and he had given his word to come to King's Lynn. He has also given his word to come to King's Lynn and give a talk to his supporters.'

Political activist Ms Rust said among those who attended the event were former general secretary of the GMB Paul Kenny, current general secretary Tim Roache and Ian Gibson, former MP for Norwich North.

Ms Rust said: 'Jeremy was received warmly by all the people who met him.

'Both him and his wife come to Norfolk frequently because they think it's beautiful.'
