Italian-born Dario Salvi has joined Watton Silver Band as musical director and conductor and the band is now hoping to boost membership.

Mr Salvi, who is taking a masters degree in conducting at UEA, has conducted a number of acclaimed concert bands in his native Italy.

Band secretary Kate Mahatme said: 'His versatility in music offers the Watton Silver Band an insight into not only traditional brass band music but military, contemporary and classical music also. This experience is already having an effect on the band's performances, much to the delight of audiences and musicians.'

As a musician, his competence includes cornet, trumpet, eb horn, baritone horn, trombone, as well as saxophone, clarinet, guitar, bass guitar and percussion.

As a bass player he has worked in the USA and Europe, touring with the likes of Emmett North Jr (Barry White, Isaac Hayes, Wolfman Jack) and Larry Ray (Platters).

The band welcome newcomers and hold rehearsals every Monday at 7.30pm at the Masonic Hall, Thetford Road, Watton. If you play an instrument, or want to start again, email wattonsilverband@gmail.com or call chairman Bob Dore on 01953 884149. The band might be able to provide an instrument.
