Looking after your town and taking pride in where you live could help ease pressures on the NHS, it is claimed.
That is the view of retired surgeon Hugh Sturzaker, the chairman of Great Yarmouth's newly formed civic society.
More than 75 people turned out to a launch event at Christchurch with council leader Graham Plant and MP Brandon Lewis reportedly being among those signing up.
Mr Sturzaker who is passionate about Yarmouth, its history and people, is keen to spread the word about all that is good about the resort - as well as encouraging people to do their bit and to stop blaming the council.
Picking up litter, adding a few hanging baskets, and generally taking pride in your corner of the town helps everyone, Mr Sturzaker said.
He said a cleaner town would draw in more people, attract more shops, lift the economy and generally improve everyone's wellbeing.
